HOLIDAY CARD DRIVE
November 2024
It's time to break out those cards again and help us kick off our 5th annual Holiday Card Drive! With your help, last year we were able to send in just over 1000 holiday cards to incarcerated people in New Jersey prisons! We are always thankful for your support, and we are looking forward to sending more love and holiday cheer with you again this year!
This season can be an especially difficult time for our friends in prison. Sending in cards is a way for us to share joy, connection, and community. It also tells prison staff that these people have a community on the outside that is watching and looking out for them. With each card, we will enclose information on how they can request free books from our program.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
-
Get some cards! (Avoid cards with glitter on them.)
-
Write something warm and uplifting. For example: Dear friend, Holding you in our hearts this holiday season & sending love from [Your Town, Your State]. With care and in solidarity.
-
Please be sure to sign as "[Your First Name] with Books Behind Bars."
-
Don't add any glitter, paint, glue, crayons, stickers, or tape. This may cause them to be rejected.
-
Don't seal the envelopes. We'll be enclosing a letter with each card, explaining how to order free books from our program.
-
Don't write anything on the outside of the envelopes. We'll take care of the addressing.
-
Please do stamp envelopes if you can, or send packs of stamps. You can also donate stamp funds via PayPal or Venmo @booksbehindbars.
-
When you're done, stack up your cards and envelopes and mail them in one packet to us at: Books Behind Bars PO BOX 2611 Wildwood, NJ 08260. We'd like to receive them all by December 10th. We will then place our informational letter in each one, seal them, address them, and mail them out!
-
Share on social media! We'd love to see photos of you filling out your cards. Tag us and we'll reshare on our stories!
Email us at info@booksbehindbarsnj.com with any questions.
Thank you so much for participating in our fifth annual Holiday Card Drive!
