PRISON BANNED BOOKS WEEK
We are hosting a book drive in honor of the inaugural Prison Banned Books Week, introduced by Pen America. Prison Banned Books Week is October 25-31. Our book drive will run from now until November 24. Our participating book store partners are Bluestockings Bookshop and Harriet's Bookshop. Every book purchased from these bookstores and donated to Books Behind Bars until 11/24/23 will be matched by a very generous foundation. This means your donation has double the impact!
To buy/donate books from Bluestockings Bookshop - a radical queer and sex-worker owned and run bookshop collective in New York City - please use this link to our Bluestockings Wishlist!
To buy/donate books from Harriet's Bookshop, a Black and women-owned Philly bookshop named after the legendary Harriet Tubman, please use this link to our Harriet's Wishlist!
We know that more books are banned in prisons than anywhere else in the country, and that censorship efforts nationwide are increasing at an alarming rate. Our project is rooted in abolition, and we send books to incarcerated folks as a revolutionary act of love and solidarity. Please help us celebrate Prison Banned Books Week by participating in our book drive!
